Chili for Beginners: A Step-by-Step Guide

Chili is a hearty and delicious dish that is perfect for a cold winter day. It is also a great way to use up leftover ground beef or turkey. This easy chili recipe is perfect for beginners, and it can be customized to your own taste.

Ingredients:

1 pound ground beef or turkey
1 onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
1 (15 ounce) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
1 (15 ounce) can pinto beans, drained and rinsed
1 cup beef broth
Instructions:

In a large pot over medium heat, brown the ground beef or turkey. Drain off any excess grease.
Add the onion, green bell pepper, and garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Stir in the chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1 minute more.
Add the diced tomatoes, kidney beans, pinto beans, and beef broth to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 30 minutes, or until the chili has thickened.
Serve hot with your favorite toppings, such as shredded cheese, sour cream, and chopped green onions.
Tips:

For a spicier chili, add more chili powder.
For a thicker chili, add a cornstarch slurry. To make a cornstarch slurry, whisk together 2 tablespoons of cornstarch and 2 tablespoons of cold water. Add the slurry to the chili while it is simmering and cook for an additional minute, or until the chili has thickened.
Chili can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. It can also be frozen for up to 3 months.
Enjoy!
